The (pathetic) history of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football
The History of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football
Can’t play, can’t win
They haven’t been given many chances, but the Miami Dolphins are the only team in the NFL who has yet to win a game on Sunday Night Football (since 2006). The Jaguars won one of their two matchups, and the Lions have a 1-8 record, the Bengals a dismal 1-13. But they’re on the board, and Miami sits at the bottom with a .000 win percentage.
Oddly enough, the first ever NBC Sunday Night Football game featured Miami as they took on the Pittsburgh Steelers to open the 2006 NFL season at Heinz Field. There was hype around the team, as it was Daunte Culpepper’s first game in a Dolphins’ uniform. He and head coach Nick Saban were outdone by Charlie Batch and the Steelers.
The next appearance for Miami would come in 2010, when Chad Henne’s 363 yards were not enough for Mark Sanchez and the Jets. The NFL wouldn’t schedule them again until 2017, a year after Adam Gase’s first year as head coach and the team’s first playoff berth in eight seasons. Jay Cutler and the Dolphins would go on to lose to the Raiders in that one.
And that’s it. That is the entire, winless history of the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. But they’ll have the chance to turn their fortunes around this coming week…
