The Detroit Lions wide receivers have to be thrilled to face the Miami Dolphins beat-up secondary, but so far, the Dolphins’ CBs have risen to challenges.

Detroit only has two standout WRs and by standout, I mean quality pass-catchers. They do not have players at an elite level like Miami has faced over the course of the season. There are no Jeffersons’ or Thielens on their roster.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

St. Brown is probably the best of the group in Detroit. In his five games so far, St. Brown has been targeted the most by Jared Goff.

  • 40 targets
  • 28 receptions
  • 275 yards
  • 9.8 yards per reception
  • 3 touchdowns

His statistics are a far cry from some of the receivers Miami has faced throughout their seven weeks so far but he has talent and can get streaky. The Dolphins should match up well with him.

Josh Reynolds

The second favorite WR target for Goff is Reynolds and he is having a typical season for what would be a WR3 on most teams.

  • 36 targets
  • 24 receptions
  • 343 yards
  • 2 touchdowns

Reynolds is the yardage guy but he hasn’t been targeted as much as St. Brown despite playing in one more game that his fellow receiver. He is a quality possession guy with good hands and runs crisp routes. Of the two, Reynolds is the tougher receiver to defend.

T.J. Hockenson

The Dolphins often find themselves giving up big plays to tight ends and Hockenson is a very good receiving threat that will get his share of opportunities against the Dolphins linebackers.

  • 39 targets
  • 23 receptions
  • 315 yards
  • 3 touchdowns

As you can see his numbers match well with those of the two top receivers. Hockenson is more than a dump-off option for Goff and the Lions do well getting him involved in the gameplan. That should be expected considering their head coach is a former TE and coached TEs much of his coaching career.
