The Miami Dolphins add to their secondary by taking Alabama corner Eli Ricks

There’s no position group more banged up in the NFL right now than the Miami Dolphins secondary. In week 7 alone, the team played with only three active corners, deploying safeties to cover.

All two of the three corners had interceptions, which isn’t an indication of their overall play, and Jevon Holland accounted for a third.

The Dolphins may have won, but losing Brandon Jones is a tough pill to swallow. The swiss-army-knife safety was placed on IR with no timetable currently available. The team has already lost Nik Needleham for the season and has no clue when Byron Jones will be back.

It justifies selecting Eli Rick in round 2. History shows Alabama corners are up and down in the pros, but Ricks, a former 5-star recruit and LSU Tiger, has the skill set and tangibles to be a solid professional. He won’t be thrust into covering number 1 wideouts, I doubt the Dolphins move on from Xavier Howard or Byron Jones by selecting a corner.

The 2022 Miami Dolphins will, and should, add some corner depth before it’s too late, but the 2023 Dolphins drafting a corner seems like a near lock (but Chris Grier has shocked us before).
