The Miami Dolphins move up to draft Arkansas interior offensive lineman Ricky Stromberg

Round 7 Pick 198: Ricky Stromberg, IOL, Arkansas

Dealing future picks is never a solid approach, especially when the Miami Dolphins will be without their second-rounder due to the Stephen Ross investigation. But to fill the offensive line need, one that I know I’ll get grilled for not answering sooner, the Dolphins move up to take a player I was high on last year.

Ricky Stromberg is the starting center for the Arkansas Razorbacks and his stock has fallen heavily, Mock Draft Database does a great job of constantly updating ranking. Whether or not he can turn it around is on him, but seeing Liam Eichenberg at left guard with few alternatives is starting to become painful.

Realistically, the Dolphins address the position in free agency, bringing in a veteran with experience playing the system, but as far as depth goes, Stromberg isn’t a bad pick. Taking a three-year starter who plays with a mean streak and can operate as another center doesn’t hurt the team.

Filling needs is extremely vital, but at this point in the draft, the Dolphins will likely take a player that they view as having a high ceiling rather than an immediate impact. Stromberg is the pick here, but it wouldn’t shock me if the Dolphins took another wide receiver or EDGE rusher in this spot.
