Miami Dolphins goes for potential in round 6 and system fit in round 7

Round 6 Pick 188: Justine Flowe, Oregon, LB

The Miami Dolphins already added Henry To’oto’o in this draft and could add another insurance piece in Oregon linebacker Justin Flowe.

The truth is, there are doubts that Flowe would enter this year’s draft, the former five-star recruit has dealt with nothing but injuries throughout his time at Oregon and could look for a change of scene too. He has looked good when he does play, but his injury history is a massive red flag.

Flowe’s ceiling could be high as becoming a potential star player that finally reaches his potential. However, his floor suffered yet another injury and being unable to play football again.

Taking a chance on Flowe would be a solid late-round addition.

Round 7 Pick 241: Will Mallory, Miami (FL), TE

The last round of the draft is about taking guys who you don’t want to hit undrafted free agency and a player you could use in the future. To say Will Mallory fits that for the Miami Dolphins.

There’s uncertainty about what the Dolphins will do with Mike Gesicki, although he wasn’t traded he is on the franchise tag. Gesicki isn’t a clean fit for the team’s offense and could be a cap casualty due to the Chubb deal.

Drafting Mallory doesn’t make him an immediate contributor, but he has an upside. Mallory spent 3 years as a blocking tight end for the Miami Hurricanes playing alongside current Houston Texan Brevin Jordan. Now he has shown strides as a pass catcher as well.

Earning playing time in this system means blocking as a tight end, Mallory can do that and should be considered for this team, even if it is a reach.
