Thomas Morstead – Trick plays, Tua Tagovailoa & more:

Vasquez: I won’t ask for specifics so you don’t give anything away, but are you ready to maybe pull a crazy trick play or two this year? Or is sticking to just your role something you would prefer?

"Morstead: I’m ready to do whatever I’m asked to do, whatever that may be, that’s been in my mentality my whole career. Vasquez: I’m sure the onside kick in the Superbowl was a crazy moment for you. Morstead: It was, a long time ago but in some ways it feels like it was just yesterday. It was a great experience, and it gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of my career to do that as a rookie, come through in a clutch moment in the biggest game you could ever play in. It’s such a mental game, while being a specialist at times when you’re not as confident, you don’t feel as good, or you’re dealing with an injury and you’re just not at your best, you have to take yourself back to times where you were able to deal with the pressure and remind yourself that you have the mental fortitude to get this done. So it’s been a blessing my whole career to be able to lean back on experiences like that."

Vasquez: You had the chance to watch Drew Brees during your time with the Saints. Tua Tagovailoa has gotten some comps to Brees, mainly because of accuracy and anticipation while throwing. Do you see any similarities between them? And what has that transition been like?

"Morstead: I’ll decline to make comparisons but when I was a rookie Drew [Brees] was in his 9th year already, so I came in to prime physical brees, a guy that had a ton of experience and a guy that had taken the lumps as a young player. Tua is only in his 3rd year so he’s still got so much growing to do like I said I don’t like comparing guys cause there is only one Drew Brees, there will never be another Drew and there is only one Tua Tagovailoa as well.” “But I’ve been very impressed with him [Tua] as a leader, and the way he carries himself in the building. I think everyone in the building not only respects him but loves him, and is playing for him, wants to do well for him, and he’s the same way with all his teammates. So it’s exciting to be a part of, when you have a QB that is as talented and committed as Tua is then you know you have a chance to win every week. Teams can say they have that, but deep down there are a lot of organizations that can’t say that So it’s nice when you really believe that and everybody in the locker room believes that as well."
