Mike McDaniel needs to do better in important time management situations.

Surprisingly, Mike McDaniel hasn’t been stellar in time mangement situations such as the end of the first half and even at the end of games. He’s been fantastic with narly everything else, but time management and when to use timeouts isn’t that sharp.

Last week, McDaniel was trying to get a field goal at the end of he half and there was pleny of time to try and go for a score and he just decided he was good at the 15 yard line. There was time to try and go to the endzone and just let time tick away. No idea why he thought that was the way to go. It wasn’t and Sanders missed the kick because that’s what he does now.

Now, time management is one of those things that everyone believes is so easy to do. Yes, when I sit on my couch with food and beer all around me, it’s not that hard to determine what’s the best route to take. But, when you’re on the sideline and the actual game is right in front of you unfolding and you’re dealing with a bunch of stuff that we have no idea about, it’s not the easiest thing.

That being said, someone upstais needs to be all over the time mangement stuff and be able to tell McDaniel all the factors happening at any given point during the game. I feel like I’d be great in that role sort of how Jim Tressel was once the Colts replay-consultant.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t been burned yet from one of these snafus but living on the edge is no way to go through life.
