Miami Dolphins: 10 observations from win over Browns

6. MVP chants and a late-game benching?!

I saw two things on Sunday that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a Miami Dolphins game, or at least not in at least two decades.

I had to lean in a bit closer to the TV to hear it when it began, but there were “MVP” chants raining down from the Hard Rock Stadium crowd, directed at none other than quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. They got louder as the game wore on, and continued as Miami left the field after the victory.

I also saw a Dolphins’ quarterback get benched in the 4th quarter, and not for negative reasons. Tagovailoa was subbed out for Miami’s final possession, as Skylar Thompson took the last few snaps in order to preserve Tua’s health. The Dolphins rarely score more than 35 points, roughly how much you need in order to consider benching your starter, and it is even more rare that they have a franchise quarterback worth preserving.

Feels good, man.

7. Zach Sieler remains the most underrated player on the roster

With the game tied 7-7 late in the first quarter, the Browns were driving and could have swung the momentum of the game in their favor had they been able to continue to march down the field. But the typically-reliable hands of Nick Chubb failed him, as Zach Sieler was able to punch the ball out at the 30-yard line, which resulted in a turnover for the Dolphins’ defense. They’d go on to add a field goal to their lead, essentially causing a six-point swing.

Even with the media still finding ways to undermine Tua and diminish his accomplishments, it is arguable that he is the team’s most underrated player. That award could very well belong to Sieler.
