2023 NFL Mock Draft: A look at the entire first round
By Wesley Minke
I think the first pick here should be a rather easy one for the Houston Texans. They have begun to rebuild the defensive side of the ball in recent drafts but have neglected the most important position on the team.
They have their RB of the future in Dameon Pierce, and they have started to replenish the offensive line with some assets. However, this passing game has nothing, and they will take a big step forward with this pick here.
This is another pick, where the Raiders should have a good idea of what they need help with. This early in the draft I don’t think any offensive linemen are worth the pick, and I could see the Raiders trading back to stay within the top 10, but acquire some extra draft capital.
Will Anderson is a freak athlete, he makes plays that not many other edge rushers can make. He is the motor behind the Alabama defense, and he is a player that is going to be a big impact player at the next level. The idea of the Raiders pairing him with Maxx Crosby is an exciting thought.
With this pick, the Carolina Panthers want to end the QB saga that continues to drag on and on each year. I think this is the right pick to end that. Bryce Young is as complete as any player in this draft class.
He has great awareness, and a good feel for the pocket, is a Heisman winner, is a good runner in the open field, and is an extremely smart player. Bryce Young has a real case to go first overall, but I think the size is what will give some scouts a little bit of worry. Not the Panthers, however.
Well, the Philadelphia Eagles will not need to wait very long to fill their biggest need on an already very good defense. They have struggled mightily to stop the run without their 2022 First Round pick, Jordan Davis. So how do they correct that, pick his former teammate 4th overall.
In all reality, Jalen Carter is one of the most hyped-up players in this draft class because of what he can do. He would add an extra element next to Jordan Davis that the Eagles don’t have, and they would both be gigantic at taking away the run that has crushed the Eagles this year.
