2023 NFL Mock Draft: A look at the entire first round
By Wesley Minke
Well, the New England Patriots desperately need help at the WR position. Insert the guy who is on the fast track to winning the Biletnikoff award this season as the nation’s best pass-catcher, Jalin Hyatt. He has played great all season, as he has finally been relied upon as the primary guy.
Hyatt comes in at 6’1 180, but he is not much of a 50/50 ball catcher. He is a dynamic route-runner, and his speed is blazing. This season he has 58 catches for 1,116 yards and 15 TDs. He will give the Patriots a dynamic downfield threat.
After grabbing an edge rusher earlier in the draft the Seahawks opt to stay along that defensive line with this pick. They grab a guy in Tyree Wilson who shouldn’t have dropped this far, but again, positional value is a high need in this draft.
Wilson comes in at 6’6 275 and has been an extremely productive pass rusher for the Red Raiders the past 2 seasons. He has an FBS high 31 pressures already this season, and he possesses a 7-foot wingspan. This guy is a physical beast. The Seahawks will be lucky to snag him at 22.
Anton Harrison is a big boy, and he is quite athletic as well. He needs work to refine his technique and work on getting off his first block to move to the next level in the run game, but his athleticism has made up for it to this point in his career.
At 6’5 315, Harrison is a big guy who easily anchors in the passing game as a left tackle. He has earned an 85.6 pass-blocking grade, according to PFF. He has allowed only 1 sack this season, and only 7 QB hurries. This pick is one where the Jets feel they can develop him.
While it appears that the banged-up secondary of the Buffalo Bills has caused a lot of trouble so far, they make a pick here to try and get a versatile playmaker. Antonio Johnson was a guy who was much higher on boards heading into this season, but because of poor alignment around him, he has not gotten a great chance.
He stands 6’3 195 and has been a great open-field tackler with big play ability. He is very long and rangy and gives the impression that someone is open before he closes the gap quickly. He would be a nice addition to a group of DBs that feature Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, and Tre’Davious White.
