How a loss saved Tua Tagovailoa’s career with the Miami Dolphins

Even if Tagovailoa played well enough in the game against the Titans, it is very likely that Flores would have opted to move on from the embattled QB, and the Dolphins would likely have fetched a second or third round pick in exchange for him. You’d probably see Tua under the tutelage of Dan Campbell in Detroit, or Pete Carroll in Seattle.  He certainly wouldn’t have the weapons that he has today in Miami, but we’d likely see a better Tagovailoa under any coach than the one we saw under Flores.

And what about the Dolphins? In addition to Tua, there would be no Mike McDaniel. The Flores-run defense would probably be performing better than they actually are in 2022, but say goodbye to the high-powered offense that we’ve been introduced to. Even if Chris Grier was still able to swing the Tyreek Hill trade, the Cheetah would have been stuck in the same anemic offense that once ran a screen pass in their own end zone.

And who would be throwing the ball to Hill and Waddle? Jimmy Garoppolo? Marcus Mariota, perhaps? Or would Flores and Miami have continued their pursuit of Deshaun Watson? Would it be us watching Jacoby Brissett under center while we waited for the accused sexual predator to return from his 11-game suspension instead of Browns fans? Whoever it would be, it certainly wouldn’t be Tagovailoa.
