3 sneaky keys to ensure a Miami Dolphins victory over the Texans
By Matt Serniak
The Miami Dolphins need to know who they’re going to as the #3 running back. Figure it out this week.
This key to the game may have bigger implications than just beating the Texans but that’s alright. We’ll get through it.
But it is important, even for this Sunday’s game, that the Miami Dolphins find out a little bit about who is going be the #3 running back because it doesn’t appear that Raheem Mostert is playing this week. And because we know that Mostert does have an injury history with his knees which is the ailment he currently has, having confidence in the guy backing up Jeff Wilson Jr. is important.
Also, having that #3 back up to speed with what this offense entails by getting live reps sort of needs to happen as well. I really don’t want to be sitting there in the 1st quarter of a playoff game with either Myles Gaskin or Salvon Ahmed learning on the fly what they need to do because they haven’t had any in-game reps.
So yes, pound the rock with Jeff Wilson Jr. The Texans are abysmal at stopping the run so let the offensive line keep getting better with run blocking and let Wilson Jr. be the guy to punish Houston. But, have one of those guys or both for all I care get some run. Let’s see who is the most comfortable with running with this line and blitz pickups.
I guess the prevailing wisdom would be Ahmed because of his familiarity with this offense but I like Myles Gaskin in this role. I’ve seen that guy make actual NFL plays where he made defenders look silly. He’d be the guy I’d go to but always remember, I’m a dude who lives near Scranton PA who doesn’t watch practice. That should outweigh my gut feeling.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend. Continue to relax, eat and drink well and definitely enjoy the game on Sunday. After this week, the pressure rises a bit. No way around that fact. I think this team is ready for it but we’ll see.
