Miami Dolphins: 3 bold predictions for game vs. 49ers

1. Tua Tagovailoa throws an interception

Tua Tagovailoa throwing an interception would not exactly count as a bold prediction early on in the season, especially for the crowd that loved to give him the “Turndaballova” nickname. But here we are in Week 13, and Tua hasn’t thrown an interception since Week 4, and has 11 to touchdowns since returning from injury in Week 7.

Tagovailoa’s luck could very well come to an end this Sunday. It is no secret that the defenses that he has played against lately aren’t exactly the cream of the crop, but that of the 49ers is. Their secondary is solid and is in the top 10 in forced interceptions, but it is the pressure that their pass rush creates that could force Tua into some errant throws.

One of the knocks on Tagovailoa early on in the season was his inability to get rid of the football, instead taking rough sacks or panic-throwing into coverage. He seems to have remedied that over the last few of weeks, but he had little pressure to deal with before the Armstead injury against the Texans. That won’t be true against the 49ers, and he’ll have to be smart about what he does with the football while under pressure.
