A forgotten player that made himself known again last week can be the guy that can really help the Miami Dolphins.

I like Durham Smythe’s game. Is he going to wow anyone with amazing catches that dazzle the eye? No, but he will catch the easier passes and not hurt the team with a bonehead play. Plus he can block a bit and I think that is something that will be in high demand this week for the Dolphins.

I love Mike Gesicki. The guy cares a ton and plays with everything he has. But let’s face it, he is pretty much an afterthought in this offense. I feel like he barely gets two targets a game. Yes, he can make crazy, impact plays. But, that happens so infrequently.

I feel like most of us say that eventually, Gesicki is going to get utilized as we get closer to the end of the season and McDaniel is just sort of going to unleash him like a secret weapon or something like that. I just don’t think that will happen too often.

I love Gesicki in the red zone due to his height and leaping ability but besides that, I feel he’s just sort of there.

Smythe can block infinitely better and can make the catch in the flat on those quick RPOs. With how this offense is positioned with Hill and Waddle getting the absolute bulk of all the targets, I don’t know how much room there is for Gesicki especially when everyone knows he can’t block well.

Miami needs added blocking this week. Perhaps Durham Smythe on the field more is the way to go. I think it’s worth exploring.
