Miami Dolphins in-house 2023 free agent priority re-signings
By Brian Miller
Trent Sherfield and Thomas Morstead both need to be re-signed but what will Morstead’s contract demands be?
Thomas Morstead hasn’t had to do too much this year with the Dolphins offense being explosive. He has been reliable and consistent with his punting all year and is playing on a veteran minimum salary. His one-year deal is almost coming to an end and the Dolphins should look to lock him down for another couple of years at least. The biggest question is what will Morstead ask for salary wise? That will play a role in whether or not he returns to Miami and it could be the only reason if he doesn’t.
Trent Sherfield – If anyone had predicted that Sherfield would have developed into the valuable offensive weapon he has become, we wouldn’t have believed them. In fact, we weren’t 100% sure that he would make the final 53. Chris Grier has Cedrick Wilson, Jr. under contract for another two years. Wilson’s contract isn’t easily digestable either. While the Dolphins should take from Wilson and give to Sherfield, releasing Wilson will cost Miami $7 million in dead space. Sherfield has played to the level of that contract.
River Cracraft – When healthy and on the field, Cracraft has delivered at clutch moments. Miami should consider bringing him back for another season and it shouldn’t be expensive, likely another one-year deal.
Nik Needham – Saving Needham for last! Is there any other player in the secondary that Miami missees more right now? Needham has developed into a quality coverage corner and without him, the Dolphins have had to platoon players to replace him. Needham was playing well before his injury.
Bringing Neehdam back would be very smart, not overly expensive, and deserving.
