Miami Dolphins: 10 observations from Week 14 loss

2. The defensive line kept Miami in the game

Two thumbs WAY up for Miami’s defensive line and the pass rush. Justin Herbert throwing for so many yards was even more impressive due to the fact that he was scrambling around for much of the game. It was a combination of players from all levels, but guys like Zach Sieler and Jaelan Phillips were getting penetration all evening long, making the defensive front one of the few highlights of the game for Miami.

Even without much from Bradley Chubb, the front seven was able to make their presence felt throughout the game, and that is without even talking about the MVP of the evening for the Dolphins…

3. Christian Wilkins = BEAST

Christian Wilkins. What an absolute beast and pleasure to watch perform on Miami’s defense.

After a breakout season in 2021, Wilkins is having a stellar campaign in 2022. He is leading interior defensive linemen in run-stopping statistical categories, and has been outstanding in getting penetration over the last couple of weeks. He was impressive against the 49ers rushing attack, responsible for both big run-stuffs and athletic chase downs, but Wilkins was otherworldly against the Chargers.

He was blasting by offensive linemen who didn’t stand a chance, and it looked like he was barely touched on multiple spin moves that got him into the Chargers backfield. Wilkins was getting to the quarterback throughout the game, blowing up rushing attempts, and chasing down skills players 15+ yards downfield.

It has been a long time since we’ve seen a defensive tackle dominate for the Dolphins like Christian Wilkins has lately.
