Final games in a Miami Dolphins uniform for these 3 players?

1. Mike Gesicki

The Mike Gesicki saga may finally be coming to an end for the Miami Dolphins, for better or for worse.

We’ve always had high hopes and expectations for the tight end from Penn State. We saw glimpses of the insanely soft hands and extra-wide catch radius, and Gesicki was able to put up solid numbers over consecutive years while the team shifted through quarterbacks. It always felt like he was on the cusp of becoming a top-5 player at his position, but he was never able to make the leap. As it stands now, he might not even be in the top-15, and certainly not top-12.

Gesicki’s production and contributions to the offense have only diminished in 2022, as the offensive scheme calls for a tight end with a skill set that he simply doesn’t match. This, coupled with his contract situation, make it very likely that his time in Miami is coming to an end. Last off-season’s contract negotiations ended with him signing the franchise tag, making him the highest-paid player on Miami’s payroll in 2022 with a $10.9 million price tag.

Durham Smythe will still be under contract, and so will Hunter Long. But given the latter’s lack of production in his young career, the tight end spot will need addressing in the off-season.
