Vic Fangio may be the big fish in the pool and a coach Mike McDaniel may pursue out of the gate.

At 64 years old, Fangio doesn’t appear to be done with coaching but his chances of becoming a head coach again are likely close to zero. Fangio failed in Denver as the HC for three seasons but he has been a DC in the NFL since 1995 serving with the Panthers, Colts, Texans, 49ers, and Bears.

McDaniel is familiar with Fangio but has not coached with him or under him. Fangio was, however, the DC under Jim Harbaugh with the 49ers so we know that Stephen Ross is familiar with him as well. There were rumors that McDaniel wanted Fangio this year but Fangio sat the season out. NFL circles believe that Fangio is going to be selective in his next job so will Miami be one of those teams that are appealing to him? Possibly.

One player should be happy if Fangio joins the team. Bradley Chubb was a first-time Pro Bowl player under Fangio so there is also that familiarity. Miami has solid pieces in place on defense with young players that are a solid DC away from being great.

Fangio could be the Dolphins top choice but will he come out of the shed to coach the Dolphins? That could be the biggest off-season question for the Dolphins and a decision that could impact the team next season in a big way.
