Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Mike McDaniel confirmed that Tua Tagovailoa indeed suffered a concussion. This puts his availability for Sunday at almost zero.

The concussion marks the second concussion of the year that has been confirmed but there still rages a debate over the hit he took from Bills defender Matt Milano. Many believe that this is now his third in the season.

Will he be back for the playoffs if the Dolphins make it to the postseason? That’s a question that will be answered when the time comes.

One question that has been asked, repeatedly, is whether or not Tua is considering retirement. That isn’t known at this time but there have been whispers. On Wednesday I was told that it is something he is discussing with physicians who he has had consultations with but this could also just be a case of looking at every angle for his health and recovery.

One of the reasons could be his family. Tua has a new baby, his first, and he could be looking at the long-term effects of multiple concussions and whether or not he can or should continue to play, and what the ramifications might be.

Tua sought out the team medical staff on Monday after symptoms of a head injury began. He has reportedly spoken with at least two neurologists about his concussions.

Mike McDaniel said that  “this is a private time for him to focus on his health.” There is no timeline for his return but he will not play this weekend against the Patriots.

Ultimately Tua will make the final decision on whether or not he will continue his NFL career and we can rest assured that he will not be listening to the media or the fanbase when his decision is made. Tua’s best advice will come from his physicians and his family and while the media and some of the fans may not agree with his decision, it’s his alone to make, especially if he truly is contemplating retirement.

The NFLPA also announced that they have opened an investigation into why Tua wasn’t pulled from the game on Sunday.
