The Miami Dolphins decision to sign Teddy Bridgewater back in March of last year hasn’t worked out well. Now he is likely out next week too.

If the Dolphins have any shot at making the postseason they will need to pray to the football gods that Tua Tagovailoa clears concussion protocols and can get back on the field because the Dolphins are not going to win with Skylar Thompson. He is far from ready to even serve as a competent backup right now.

Losing Bridgewater hurts but only in the sense that Miami doesn’t have anyone else on the roster. Truth be told, I’m not sure the outcome of today’s game is much different with Bridgewater playing. He was erratic and while he led a touchdown drive and a long 10-plus play drive, his inconsistency is hard to overcome.

Miami’s best bet would be to hit the free agent market where the pickings are extremely thin. Too bad Derek Carr didn’t get released by the Raiders, at least he can throw it deep.

Currently, there isn’t much on the market.

Cam Newton at the age of 33 is available but even with the Dolphins potentially being desperate, they can’t be this desperate.

Blake Bortles is an option but like Newton, not a very good one.

Mike Glennon continues to hang around the NFL far longer than anyone expected and Miami could be desperate enough to lure him back on the field.

The list pretty much dries up after that. Names like A.J. McCarron, Tim Boyle, Nate Sudfeld, and Jake Fromm.

Of course, the Dolphins could rock the NFL world and sign Colin Kaepernick to try and get into the postseason.

All of the above are not enticing and the Dolphins have few if any other options. The 2022 season could hinge on Tua Tagovailoa’s recovery or Skylar Thompson’s ability to hold the fort down for one single game unless the Patriots win and then it won’t really matter.
