LINEBACKERS

Melvin Ingram
Duke Riley
Elandon Roberts
Sam Eguavoen
Andrew Van Ginkel

There is no positional unit that needs a facelift more than the linebackers. The edges are pretty much set by the highly-paid Bradley Chubb and the up-and-coming Jaelan Phillips, but the interior linebackers are another question.

The only ones under contract for the 2023 season are Channing Tindall and Jerome Baker. Tindall saw very limited action in his rookie season and is still a work in progress, and Baker’s future with the team is not solidified given his shortcomings and the money Miami could save by moving on from him.

Other than that, everyone else will be hitting the open market. Elandon Roberts led the team in tackles in 2022 and could be a piece that the front office attempts to bring back, but there will likely be a slew of new faces playing the linebacker spots for the Dolphins next season.

SECONDARY

Eric Rowe
Nik Needham
Clayton Fejedelem
Justin Bethel
Elijah Campbell

Aside from the offensive line, there was no unit that endured more moving and shuffling than Miami’s secondary. It seemed doomed from the start when Byron Jones was expected to miss time, and injuries to Nik Needham and Brandon Jones killed the Dolphins’ depth and forced young and unproven players into the rotation.

The results were varied, but the defensive backfield was an overall disappointment for Miami in 2022. Most of the better and more accomplished players are locked in for at least another season, but the Dolphins will have to replace the depth below their starters for next year. They may try to bring back Needham, and Fejedelem is used mostly in special teams situations. But the rest will be up in the air.

Thomas Morstead is also a free agent.
