5 Miami Dolphins players who likely played their last game for Miami
By Brian Miller
Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin have been very good friends that date back to before the Dolphins, and neither is likely to return.
The Dolphins will have no contracted running backs heading into contract season prior to free agency. We can assume that Jeff Wilson, Jr. will get a new deal and Raheem Mostert likely will as well but beyond that, Ahmed and Gaskin are all about gone.
Of the two, Ahmed has the better chance of getting a contract from Miami but even that is slim. Gaskin will run into free agency and the only thing that would be surprising is if he were even offered a league-minimum deal from the Dolphins. That would be shocking. Miami hardly used him this year and even when Mostert got hurt, the Dolphins turned to Ahmed.
Ahmed was a free-agent pick-up and Gaskin a late-round draft pick. Gaskin had shown a lot of value to the team early in his career but that was under the previous regime. He and Ahmed flipped in value entering this season and Mike McDaniel clearly saw more value in his mind with Ahmed.
If this is Gaskin’s final year, and we all know that it is, he finishes his four years with Miami, rushing 361 times for 1,355 yards and another 701 yards receiving. He had 13 total touchdowns. This season, he managed to total 26 yards on 10 attempts and added 28 yards on four receptions.
Ahmed will finish his three-year Miami career, provided he doesn’t return, with 532 yards on 141 attempts and 186 receiving on 34 catches. He has 10 touchdowns.
