Could a fan favorite, and to be honest, one of my favorite all-time Miami Dolphins be in the mix to take this Defense to the next level? Sam Madison.  How amazing would this story be? Madison is currently the Miami Dolphins cornerback coach and pass game specialist.  This would have been his first year coaching the Dolphins, but his second year in coaching as he held a similar position with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Miami Dolphins secondary never fielded a fully healthy team.  Byron Jones had something wrong with him all year, Trill Williams tore his ACL in the last game of the preseason, Nik Needham tore his ACL after week 6 of the regular season.  Same thing happened with Brandon Jones.  To say that Madison had to work with developmental players is an understatement.  But that didn’t stop Madison, as he mentored and tutored an undrafted free agent Kada Kohou into a starting caliber player.  Although Kohou was targeted the most in the NFL this past offseason, mainly due to the fact that he was a rookie and you had a pro ball player on the opposite side, he held his own.  After the season, Kohou was interviewed stating that he praised the Miami Dolphins coaching staff for his upbringing and knowledge.

The downside, Madison never owned the entire defense.  This would be his first challenge, and is it a risk worth rolling the dice on? Madison would need to bring in some mentors that could help offset that challenge and allow him to develop his playbook and knowledge.  This would be an exciting addition and promotion for Madison, but there is a concern when weighing his experience against the other two potential candidates.
