Miami Dolphins: Most embarrassing moments of 2022 season

3. Defense can’t stop Justin Fields

The Dolphins are lucky to have come out of their contest against the Bears with a victory. It was one of the games that was a part of the “soft spot” in Miami’s schedule, but there was nothing soft about the performance that Justin Fields put on in Week 9.

It was something of a coming out party for Fields, as the second-year quarterback found his footing during the middle of the 2022 season. The Dolphins defense absorbed some serious punishment, as Fields set the NFL record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game by running for a whopping 178 ground yards.

Fields’ performance was so dominant that the lowly Bears almost defeated the Dolphins during a time when Miami was considered a Super Bowl contender. Early in the third quarter, he exploded for a 61-yard scamper that resulted in a touchdown, pulling the Bears to within three points of Miami. The teams traded touchdowns before a potentially game-winning drive by Chicago ended with a turnover on downs with under two minutes to play.

Miami ended up winning the game and pushing their win streak to three, but the performance by Justin Fields nearly cost them a victory, and raised serious questions about the defensive unit as a whole.
