Miami Dolphins QB Grades for 2023 Season

Tua Tagovailoa: B

Much like the season as a whole for the Miami Dolphins, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s 2022 campaign was an absolute rollercoaster.

He started off hot, but then became the subject of national headlines with the concussion he suffered in Week 4. He came back strong, pulling his team from 3-3 to 8-3 with stellar play that had him as one of the betting favorites for NFL MVP. And then it all fell apart. Underwhelming performances against the 49ers and Chargers brought him back down to Earth, and his entire season was derailed on Christmas Day against the Packers due to the interceptions and injury.

Tagovailoa’s future with the Dolphins, and with football for that matter, is up in the air. The team has to decide whether they’d like to pursue a change and bring in a more durable quarterback, and Tua has to decide if he is willing to put himself in harms way by continuing to subject himself to hard hits.

A change may be needed, but not because of any performance issues. We have seen how he can perform when he and the rest of the team are healthy and clicking, and we’ve seen what the offense looks like without him and the helm. Given their current draft pick situation and the lack of upcoming free agents, riding with Tagovailoa for at least one more season would be the smart, and perhaps winning, move.
