Miami Dolphins: 5 numbers that defined the 2022 season

Career-high yardage total for Tyreek Hill

We knew that Tyreek Hill would be a game changer when the Dolphins acquired him last spring, we just didn’t know how much of an impact he would have on the offense.

The 2022 off-season was filled with chatter about Hill and his new teammate Tua Tagovailoa, and if the duo could come even remotely close to having the success that Hill enjoyed with his previous quarterback. Tagovailoa was mostly unproven, and Hill hadn’t played without Patrick Mahomes since his first season in the NFL.

As it turns out, neither of them missed a beat, Tua proved to be worthy, and Hill had the most productive season of his career in his new home. His 119 catches were 8 more than his previous high that he achieved in his final season with the Chiefs, but the more impressive number is the yards. Hill amassed 1,710 receiving yards in 2022, nearly 500 more than he did in 2021. It was 231 more than his previous career high, set in 2018.

The big numbers made for impressive averages. Hill notched over 100 yards per game for the first time, and his 14.4 yards per reception was more than three full yards higher than the season prior. He played a big part in Miami’s timing-based offense, but there were times when “Tyreek is down there somewhere” was the thought process behind throws. And sometimes it worked.
