The 2022 Miami Dolphins did some things really well. They threw the ball around the yard like they haven’t in many many years. They utilized motion, something that we’ve been clamoring for what seems like a millennium and they also used guys’ talents such as Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle’s speed, and actually knew what to do them. Previous regimes would have stared at Hill and Waddle’s speed and would have tried figuring out 10,000 ways to not go vertically down the field with them.

Mike McDaniel laid the roots deep enough that we should expect to see repeat performances in all three of the things I mentioned above. They pretty much have to.

But, if this team is going to take a serious next step and not just a lateral one, they have to change some of the ways they go about business. They need to embrace some ideas or philosophies, if I will, that they pretty much glossed over this year as if they were a new landlord who casually thinks their tenants will take care of the yard work.

The number of times we all saw the Miami Dolphins simply not care about some of these aspects of the game was mind-boggling. To think, you can just act like some of these things don’t exist and that they wouldn’t ever come back to haunt you is the hubris I talked about last week when I wrote about McDaniel. He needs to make sure he adds to his repertoire. If he does, and makes sure that that the stuff that worked continues to do its thing while also getting better, then the 2023 Miami Dolphins have a chance to I don’t know take the division?

Let’s be honest, the Buffalo Bills are good but after what we saw last week against the Bengals and based on what their cap situation is, you can make the argument that they will be worse. Just saying, it’s possible their window is closing ever so slightly.

So heck yes, Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins better look to embrace these philosophies.
