The Miami Dolphins must find a quality backup quarterback for Tua Tagovailoa this offseason. Options are not great but there has to be someone.

Miami learned the hard way this year. It isn’t easy. Teddy Bridgewater was nothing special or even average. Whatever Chris Grier and company saw in him as a potential free-agent addition, was a mistake. It’s a mistake they can not make again in 2023.

There are three ways the Dolphins can go in this off-season.

  • Trade Tua Tagovailoa
  • Trade for or sign a top FA quarterback
  • Sign a free-agent QB with starting experience

The first one shouldn’t be an option. The Dolphins need to see if Tua can stay healthy next season and if he can’t, then you move on before the 5th year option kicks in.

The 2nd one makes little sense unless they go with the first route. So the Derek Carr, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, and Aaron Rodgers fans shouldn’t get too excited.

The third option is, in reality, the only option for the Miami Dolphins. The question is, who is the best option for the Dolphins that can step and play at a level that the Dolphins need should Tua miss a couple of weeks for any reason? Here are five potential options and none of them are Skylar Thompson. He still needs another year to develop before he can be relied upon for any length of time.
