The Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, has cleared concussion protocols according to reports from local and national media.

I so badly want to end this right here. Just, you know, nothing else below this line. I’m not allowed.

With the news also comes word that Tua is changing agents. That shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The next move is up to the Dolphins and that is the use of the 5th year option being enacted ahead of the season to come. The Dolphins would guarantee Tua’s full salary in the event of an injury that keeps him sidelined the following year.

It would seem logical that the Dolphins would use the 5th year option as they did on Christian Wilkins but so far they have not announced that they would do so. Miami can remove the option at any point prior to the start of the season.

Tua doesn’t come with much concern in regards to long-term injuries but he has missed games this year due to, well, concussions and has not been cleared from the NFL protocol since suffering his last head injury against Green Bay, three weeks before the regular season ended.

Despite being cleared, Tua will not participate in the Reindeer Games, I mean the Pro Bowl Games. He opted out last week and was replaced. Trevor Lawrence, Tyler Huntley, and Derek Carr will represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl whatever they turn out to be.

As for Tua, he has the rest of the offseason to get completely healthy and all signs are indicating he has every intention to return to the Dolphins in 2023.

Maybe it is a bit ironic that he is cleared the same day Tom Brady announces he is retiring.  Hmmmm, that does seem a tad odd…
