The Vic Fangio to the Miami Dolphins talk has gone back and forth but it appears that after the Super Bowl, Fangio will sign a contract with Miami.

This was reported earlier and it appears to be nothing more than the timing at this point. Fangio brings a lot of NFL experience to that coaching position but he brings more than that with him. He brings the seeds for the Miami Dolphins’ future.

For the Dolphins, Fangio should bring an entire coaching staff with him. Coaches want to work with him, to learn from him, and then use that knowledge to open other doors. In Miami, Fangio’s tree could branch off for years to come.

It has been reported that Fangio will sign a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option and when Fangio does in fact leave, Miami should have a pool of coaches ready to take over that side of the ball in his place. Run the same system. That would be the ideal scenario.

Over the course of the last decade, the Dolphins have taken the assistant route. Coaches who coached under someone else. Up and comers who never really rose to the top but instead simply floundered.

For all the fight and drive that Brian Flores brought to the defense, Josh Boyer couldn’t emulate it but Flores himself didn’t have the experience to teach others, maybe not even the will or desire.

Fangio has a decent coaching tree and it will be interesting to see who the Miami Dolphins hire to work with him on that side of the ball and what coaches, currently still on staff, are retained.
