Vic Fangio has a great safety to work with who has an endless supply of talent. It just needs to be cultivated.

We loved what Jevon Holland brought to the Miami Dolphins during his rookie season. The guy was everywhere in every single game. He brought a calculated nature to the backend of the defense with how he saw the angles before they happened while at the same time when he saw that angle, he delivered a punishing blow at the vertex of that angle(little math talk there no big deal).

Last year wasn’t exactly a down year for Holland but to me, it was more of a lateral year. I thought he would make a bigger jump in production but he didn’t. There were even stretches of time where he sort of disappeared and I forgot he was out there. He’s too good for that to happen.

Maybe he thrived so well his rookie year because Brian Flores was manning the controls of the defense and that last year it was Josh Boyer pulling the strings and Holland just wasn’t a focal point of the strategy each week. I think that argument could be made.

Where Holland ranks compared to other safeties is anyone’s guess. PFN has Jevon Holland on the outside of the top 10 in safeties. Holland’s peers, however, have him ranked inside the top 5 at his position.

No matter which way you look at it, Jevon Holland is a very good football player. But, I think we all can say there is still a lot for him to show and I think Vic Fangio will put him in positions to let him do what he does best and that’s use his instincts and his athleticism as often as possible.

The best game I saw Holland play this year was on the road against the Bills for the first time. He got hurt in that game, put on one of those old-school neck rolls, and started to taking ass and kicking names. He got screwed down into the box due to other guys getting hurt and he was allowed to just play. He batted down passes and ran down Josh Allen on a key 3rd down. It was wildly impressive and I just wanted him to play like that more often. I’m hoping Vic Fangio lets Jevon Holland just go out there and play.
