Emmanuel Ogbah could make the Miami Dolphins defense so much better in 2023 but his contract isn’t great given his injury.

Ogbah wasn’t playing well early in the 2022 Dolphins season and when he went down with injury, sadly, Miami’s defense didnt’ decline. That is saying something. On paper, Ogbah and Jaelan Phillips should have been an incredible duo but instead, it was lackluster.

Ogbah will be the fifth highest-paid player on the Dolphins roster this year. He will account for $17 million in cap space and releasing him does nothing to add to Miami’s ability to increase spending. Miam would save only $3.8 million and a whoppin $21 million and because of this contract, the Dolphins are not going to find a trade partner.

The good news is that Ogbah can recover and return and hopefully turn in the type of season that earned him a new contract. Now he needs to live up to it. He didn’t in the short period last year.

With a healthy Ogbah, Phillips, and Bradley Chubb, the Dolphins pass rush could be at an elite level in 2023 depending on how Vic Fangio runs the defense with the current personnel. Either way, Miami fans will see more Ogbah because his contract is way too high for the production we saw after he was extended.
