A brain injury attorney is saying he isn’t buying into the Miami Dolphins belief that Tua Tagovailoa isn’t suseptible to future concussions.

“If Tua (Tagovailoa) decides to play in 2023, he’s playing with fire”

So says attorney Ted Spaulding who is a personal injury attorney who represents clients who have had brain injuries. Is he an expert? No, he is an attorney but it would be a good assumption that he has had plenty of conversations with actual neurologists in his years of representing his own clients.

Spaulding cites recent studies that multiple concussions are more suseptible to “long-term cognitive deficits”. He also believes that the more hits to the head a person has they are more susceptible to developing CTE. That isn’t a big surprise since the medical community has been blowing the lid off CTE research for the last half-decade or so.

In Spaulding’s opinion, if Tua plays, “he is running the ulimate risk”.

Tua was cleared of concussion protocols last week and there has been a big debate over his future and his potential for further concussions given the fact he had two confirmed this year and a lengthy recovery after his second, against the Packers.

At this point, everyone seems to have an opinion and it shouldn’t be surprising that an attorney has weighed in on the debate. It is also not surprising that neurologists have had different opinions on the subject as well and there is no universally accepted answer to the question about Tua’s future.

What we do know, now, is that Tua is planning to play in 2023 and if he suffers another head injury, then his decision will be, once again, plastered over the media and his future in the NFL will once again be brought into a debate.
