2023 first round NFL mock draft sees a couple of early trades
By Brian Miller
Now we are hitting the mid-rounds in this first NFL Mock Draft of the post-2022 season.
The Texans are on the clock again thanks to the Deshaun Watson trade and with their 2nd pick they need to get their new QB some weapons. Brandin Cooks will likely not be back and the Texans don’t have much but they need a lot. Both sides of the ball are in play and the Texans would be smart not to pigeonhole themselves into a WR here.
The Jets looked like a different team for most of the year but their offensive line play and QB play doomed any hope of a miracle season. Mechi Becton didn’t turn out to be the player that most thought he would be and now the Jets replace him.
The Patriots need to draft a WR. Their receiving corp wasn’t good last year and DeVante Parker is not a long term answer at all. Sadly, they also need secondary help and Bill Belichick loves drafting corners. This one makes sense.
This could very well be Green Bay again but for this mock, we stuck with a swap of 1st’s for the Rodgers trade (this year only). The Raiders made the splash for Rodgers and now will add a RB to replace Josh Jacobs. Their defense still needs a lot of work.
The Commanders need a quarterback and they can’t afford to continue to hope a mid-round draft pick is going to help. Despite drafing a QB in round three last year, they need to replace Taylor Heinickie and Carson Wentz. Draft Richardson, let him sit for a year and move on.
