In what would be the biggest upset in Monday Night Football history, the Miami Dolphins erased an 11-point deficit with less than four minutes remaining to stun Brady and the Patriots on Dec. 20, 2004, 29-28.

Miami was 2-11 coming in while the Patriots were 12-1 and controlled their own destiny for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs as the teams arrived at Pro Player Stadium.

With just over two minutes to go, Sammy Morris found the end zone for the second time to cut the lead to five. On the ensuing New England third down, Brady was corralled for what appeared to be a sack, but instead shot putted one up for grabs that was intercepted by Dolphins linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo — Brady’s third pick of the night.

On 4th-and-10 on Miami’s possession, quarterback A.J. Feeley found 6-foot-6 Derrius Thompson for the game-winning 21-yard touchdown. Brady’s fourth interception of the night — this one by Arturo Freeman — ultimately sealed the contest. Safety Sammy Knight came down with the first two interceptions for the Dolphins.

The victory for Miami would ultimately cost the Patriots home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. New England was forced to travel for the AFC Championship, but had little trouble in a 41-27 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Patriots would ultimately beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX for their third world championship in four years.

Throughout the 2004 campaign, New England lost just twice. The final time came in South Florida to the Miami Dolphins in the biggest upset in the history of Monday Night Football.
