3 Miami Dolphins that don’t deserve a 2023 with the team
By Brian Miller
Byron Jones didn’t play a down last year and if he had been on IR, that would have been fine but there was more to that story.
We don’t know what the Byron Jones issue was and we probably never will until he leaves the Dolphins and even then, we probably won’t.
Was Jones’ absence for something more than an Achilles injury? That is a common thought among fans and media alike. Secondary coach Sam Madison told the media during the season that some players play through injuries and some don’t.
"“He could have…helped. Injuries come up. Some people fight through them. Some don’t.” – Via Miami Dolphins PC transcripts"
Barry Jackson talked about this as well mentioning that quote and also saying that “his recovery from March surgery stopped progressing at a point he didn’t feel he could play.”
Madison never directly said Jones’ name in his above comment but conjecture is that Jones was the player. The fact he never returned to the team is also interesting.
Some believe that Jones’ issues were with the firing of Brian Flores. If that is the case, he could be gone. One thing is for certain if he stayed out last season because he didn’t like what Miami was doing and it was not 100% injury related, then the Dolphins should eat the salary and move on because if that is the case, he doesn’t deserve to come back.
If it was injury-related then the Dolphins’ secondary is going to get a big boost when he returns next season.
