The Miami Dolphins will have to make a decision on their running back unit and it could come down to re-signing their own impending FAs.

Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Jr., Salvon Ahmed, Myles Gaskin, all impending free agents that leave the Dolphins backfield empty. Miami will likely enter the free agency period looking to get better with their personnel but that does not mean the decision on who to bring back will not be easy.

Mostert was signed to a one-year deal heading into the 2022 season. He could likely be added back to the roster on a similar deal or a multi-year deal with less cap dollars and more guarantees that would still be on the lower end of the salary spectrum. I would think he would be in Miami’s plans.

Wilson is intriguing. He will likely cost a little more than Mostert but it won’t be bank-breaking. I would think that Wilson would be a priority to bring back considering the Dolphins invested a 5th-round draft pick in him for a little over half a season. Will Chris Grier not care about the draft pick? Probably not but if Wilson wants more money than Miami is willing to give ahead of FA, he could hit the market and bring an offer back to Miami to match.

Salvon Ahmed won’t be expensive, knows the system, and doesn’t complain publicly about his role. He isn’t going to draw a lot of attention on the open market and the Dolphins could bring him back to compete, unlike Gaskin.
