Potential landing spots for Mike Gesicki in 2023 and our prediction
By Brian Miller
The Green Bay Packers should be a draw for Mike Gesicki provided Aaron Rodgers remains the quarterback in Green Bay. If not, all bets are off.
The Packers don’t like to spend a lot of money on skill positions as we have seen with their hesitation in signing top wide receivers over the last few years to help Rodgers. Gesicki will command a big contract, perhaps one of the biggest for a tight end but he would definitely give the Packers a weapon for whichever QB they decide to go with.
Green Bay is intriguing for a lot of reasons and the Packers don’t need him to be a productive blocker to be successful.
In 2022, the best pass-catching TE was Robert Tonyan who put up 470 yards on 53 receptions for two touchdowns. By far the most productive TE on the roster. He will be a free agent in 2023 as well.
Tonyan’s receptions were the most in his career with the Packers but his yardage was just over 100 yards less than his 2020 season. Still, Gesicki is a more productive receiver and again, would improve the Packers’ offense considerably, especially if the Packers decide to go cheap at wide receiver.
Another possible destination: Jacksonville Jaguars.
Gesicki reportedly would like to re-sign with Miami and if wants to stay in Florida, the Jaguars are an option. They enter the 2023 off-season in need of a tight end and giving Trevor Lawrence another outlet in the passing game, or a featured target wouldn’t be a bad thing.
