Miami Dolphins biggest free agent roster needs of 2023
By Brian Miller
You would think that the Miami Dolphins would have a borderline great tight end room but now suddenly, they don’t really have one at all.
Mike Gesicki will leave Miami in another week and Durham Smythe will likely be gone a year from now unless the Dolphins add another year or two to his contract. Adam Shaheen likely won’t be back and that leaves the Dolphins with Smythe, Cethan Carter, and Hunter long.
Clearly, none of those players elicit much in the way of confidence. Smythe is by far and away the best of the three and he deserves another extension before hitting free agency next season. But he isn’t going to scare opposing defenses.
Will Miami hit the free agent market looking for a new tight end? They should but this year’s draft class is very deep and Miami could find a 2nd round talent in the third round this year.
Drafting a TE makes sense but Miami still has to address the position in free agency because they simply need more than what they have and they can’t afford a top-tier TE that will fit perfectly in McDaniel’s offense.
This could be an area where Miami tries to find the money to bring in someone that can help.
