For the Miami Dolphins to improve at defense, Christian Wilkins needs to be here and he needs to be here for years to come.

Christian Wilkins is the heart and soul of the defense. He may even be the heart and soul of the entire team. Tyreek Hill may have something to say about that but you get my point.

The energy Wilkins brings each and every game is palpable. The way he plays the game with such vigor and joy is awesome to see but how he messes with the other team is also super fun to watch as well. I actually think all of Wilkins’s games work too. We’ve seen Josh Allen and others at times react to Wilkins’s antics by pressing too much. The guy knows how to get under your skin.

Oh, and he’s really good at playing football. That has to be my #1 reason he needs to be in a Miami Dolphin uniform for the next five seasons at least.

Last year when the entire defense sort of took a step back from previous seasons, we watched Wilkins, nearly single-handedly, terrorize backfields. I remember the Chargers game specifically when Wilkins was in the backfield play after play taking down fools. When it came to TFLs, Christian Wilkins was tied for 9th in the league with 16. For an interior lineman, that’s fantastic.

Since being drafted by Miami in 2019, Wilkins’ play has only gotten better. It seems like year after year, he ups his game. The Miami Dolphins should do everything they can to keep players like that especially homegrown ones.

I don’t know exactly what it would take, money-wise, to get Wilkins to agree to a long-term deal but I’m guessing it will be around $15M a year. Pay him Pay that man his money. He’s that important to the Dolphin’s future. Don’t let him test the market in a year.
