Mike McDaniel finally learns the Quinn Ewers lesson Dolphins fans already knew

Fans have been saying this all year long.

Miami Dolphins' head coach Mike McDaniel is finally doing what should have been done a long time ago. He is benching Tua Tagovailoa and starting Quinn Ewers.

Ewers may not have been the season-savior for the Dolphins, but clearly Tagovailoa wasn't either. If this move had been made earlier in the year, would the outcome have been much different?

That might be hard to fathom if we are being honest, but it surely would not have hurt their chances any more than how the season unfolded.

Miami Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel should have made this quarterback change a long time ago

Hindsight is always 20/20, but had McDaniel made this move after the start they had, he may be looking at a more secure future with Stephen Ross. Now, his future too is in question.

Every Dolphins fan knew that Ewers wasn't going to save the season. He is raw, has risks, and few rewards at this stage of his career, but he offered something that Tagovailoa did not: hope. Hope for a new direction, hope for something different.

Dolphins fans knew something was off with Tagovailoa this year. They have been banging their fists on their computer desks for weeks while most of the media believed the team needed to stay the course with Tagovailoa. That all went out the window in Week 15.

McDaniel finally decided to move on from Tagovailoa this year, but if Ewers plays well down the stretch, there will be questions as to why this move wasn't made before the team was eliminated.

In some ways, Ewers may have given the Dolphins a better chance to win some of those games. He may not be as accurate, but he doesn't need a 2-second window to throw in. He may take sacks, but he is also more mobile and more likely to run for a first down instead of sliding two yards in front of it.

It's all hindsight at this point, but at least he finally will get the evaluation this year that he deserves.
