Miami Dolphins Seven Round Mock

1. Christian Ponder – QB | 6’2” | 229 lbs | FSU |

I think San Diego could be a trade partner with Miami again this year. SD seems to be high on JJ Watt and rumor is NE will take him at 17 and JAX may take him at 16. I don’t think Ponder will slide past Seattle at 25 so this would be a good slot. They could drop back to 18 and pick up SD’s second pick in round two (#61).

I won’t go into detail on Ponder because I think I have done a lot of that already in other post. I am just sold that Ponder would be a great fit for an offense that needs a leader and an identity. IMO his abilities fit the type of offense Miami wants to run, I’d be fine at taking him at #15 but if they can move back a few slots and still get him, it’s even better.

2. Danny Watkins – OG | 6’3” | 310 lbs | Baylor

I have Watkins ranked as the #2 guard in the draft. He is big mean and nasty qualities I love in an offensive lineman. He can play on the right or left side and can also play RT if needed. Line him up next to Long and you have the new WWE tag team champions! LOL

3. DJ Williams – TE | 6’2” | 245 lbs | Arkansas

Miami seems to be showing a lot of interest in Williams. The new offense will be very similar to what New England runs and Williams is almost a mirror image of Hernandez. Miami plays in the AFE East, so 6 games against teams that run a 3-4 scheme. The best way to attack a 3-4 scheme is with an athletic TE. Williams is more of an H-back, but Miami will use motions and shift to get him in mismatches. He’s a good blocker in space where Fasano excels along the line. Williams and Fasano will be a good pairing for Miami t TE.

4. Bilal Powell – RB | 5’11” | 207 lbs | Louisville

Ireland and Sparano were at the Louisville proday. They spent a lot of time with Bilal. Powell runs with power but shows some burst. He is just average in the passing game but shows decent hands on the catches he should make. I think Miami will resign Brown and Brown will become more of the third down back and used more in the passing game.

5. Bruce Miller – DE/OLB | 6’2” | 259 lbs | UCF

Miller is a good option opposite of Wake. He plays on the offensive side of the ball. He was Confernce USA defensive player of the year in 2010, registering 8.5 sacks, 13.5 TFL, 2 ints (both returned for TDs), 2 pass breakups and 18 QB hurries. This kid can plan and can get after the QB. I wouldn’t mind seeing Misi moved inside.

6. Deunta Williams – FS | 6’1” | 215 lbs | UNC

He was caught up in the agent issues and missed the first four games. He them broke his leg in the bowl game and hasn’t been able to workout yet. He has third round talent but the leg and suspension will hurt him. In 2009 he was a ballhawk and had 6 ints, but last year was asked to give more run support due to suspension in the front seven and didn’t register any ints. I think if he’s here in round 6 he would be a steal. He’s has a high football IQ, that made a poor choice off the field. I have liked this guy for a couple of years now and would love to see him in Miami.

7a. Mario Harvey – ILB | 5’11” | 250 lbs | Marshall

I know this guys doesn’t fit the prototypical mold of the LB Parcells likes, but Parcells is gone and I hope Ireland realized fitting a mold isn’t always the best option. This guys nickname is Thumper, that has got to tell you something about him. Like Williams I have liked this guy for a couple of years. He is stout against the run and can get pressure on the QB from the inside as well. He is a 3 year starter and in those three years he has averaged 123 tackles, and 7 sacks. He’s not going to help you in pass coverage, but he can plug the middle and blitx the QB from the inside spot.

 7b. Aldrick Robinson – WR | 5’10” | 182 lbs | SMU

The Dolphins have had meetings with this guy and seem to have interest in him. He is fast as lightning posting a 4.35 at the combine. He is small and doesn’t have the best 10 yard split which is why he is considered a 7th round pick or UFA.
