Miami Dolphins Play Joke On Fans Kick Tires Of Tiki Barber?

Jeff Ireland says that he loves to turn over acorns in the hopes of finding one that may actually grow into something.  It’s how he found Davone Bess.  Yesterday, he surely must have been in a jovial mood and trying to play a little mind game with the fans who already booed Chad Henne because Ireland didn’t trade for Kyle Orton because he brought in Tiki Barber for a workout.   Reports are that Barbers’ workout went well but the Phins have not offered him a contract…yet.  They say they want to see what they have on their roster first.

Let me repeat this for a moment so you know, I’m not trying to pull a fast one.  The Dolphins worked out Tiki Barber.

There are still plenty of free agent runners on the market.  Hell, until the day before yesterday, Ronnie Brown could have been had for 1 million and a handful of minor incentives.  Jason Snelling is still on the market, yesterday Cadillac Williams signed with the Rams so he was recently still available.  Kevin Smith is still on the market as is both former Miami Dolphins runners Ricky Williams and Patrick Cobbs.  So while turning over every acorn is fine and dandy, Tiki Barber?  Really?  It has to be a joke.

The Dolphins shook up their Oline yesterday as well.  Vernon Carey is now back to playing guard as he moves inside while newly acquired Marc Columbo stands in at the RT spot.  Love the move for two reasons.  One, I think that Carey will make a better guard than a bookend he will have some help and should be able to hold off defenders better in pass protection where he was beaten on the outside quite a bit last year.  Columbo should have no problems adjusting to the Miami schemes as Tony Sparano was his coach in Dallas when he excelled.  Richie Incognito is on the left side next to Jake Long.

The Dolphins moved today’s contact practice to the evening so that the new players could practice with the team.  The morning practice will be a walk through.  New league rules prohibit two-a-day contact practices.  The switch was made because the new league year will start at 4:00 PM provided the CBA is ratified today.  There are still hang-ups and I have promised not write about the labor discord so I will just say…it’s not quite done just yet.

If and when the CBA is signed, all players will be able to practice with their teams.  Including QB Matt Moore whom fans are itching to see.

What salary cap space the Dolphins currently have available seems to be going towards an extension for Kendall Langford.  The Dolphins are reportedly talking to Langford about an extension but it’s being noted that they have yet to contact the agent for Paul Soliai to work out an extension for him.  Something that would reduce the 12 million he is due this year.

For now, that’s about all there is.  But we will keep you updated!
