A weekend ago, myself and a group of other Miami Dolphins fan site operators, writers, and webmasters, convened in Miami for the 9th Annual Web Weekend. The yearly event is hosted by the Dolphins. They are the only team in the NFL and possibly all of professional sports who acknowledge the work that we fans go through to cover the team.
On Saturday night, the Dolphins host a dinner and awards presentation. The “Webbies” are voted on by our peers. In this case, the sites that attended the weekend event. This year, our site, PhinPhanatic.com took home four “Webbie” awards. In large part not do to me, but because of all of you who come here daily to read our site, comment on our articles, and come back for more.
So to all of you, I say THANK YOU!
This year we were very fortunate to be included with some great sites. Finheaven.com took home awards for Best Dolphins Forum and Best Designed Site. Phins.com took home an award for Best News Site. Both sites are very close friends of mine and it was an honor to receiver awards along with them. Perhaps the best honor came when DolfansNYC.com won awards for Best Fan Content and the “Eddie Jones Best Fan Community Site” award. I was very fortunate to tie with them and received those awards as well.
The Eddie Jones award specifically deserves a round of thank you’s to ALL of our charity donors. Without you, that would not have been possible. Our site raised $600.00 for the Dolphins Cycling Challenge in the name of former Dolphins fan site webmaster Tom Eddie. Tom passed away from cancer a few years back. In his honor, the Dolphins have named the top award after him.
This year, for the 2nd year in a row, PhinPhanatic.com was awarded the Tom Eddie Best Overall Site award. The award is a huge honor for me personally because I have a tremendous amount of respect for those who have won the award in the 7 years prior.
All in all, Phinphanatic.com was awarded Best Overall Site, Best Community Site, Best Fan Content, and Best News Site. And as I sit here in my little dank throw together office, I have all of you and all of them to thank.
