Miami Dolphins Training Camp Roster Bubble Veterans

A.J. Francis

The Sentinel cites some other players on the roster as camp competition including Deandre Coleman and Anthony Johnson.

What I think

Francis should make the roster this year. He has been pretty good as a rotational player and despite the additions of Ndamukong Suh and C.J. Mosley as well as 2nd round pick Jordan Phillips, Francis knows the system. This could be his last chance to show he is ready to make a bigger impact on the roster.

Jordan Tripp

Another one of the Dolphins injured 2014 draft picks. Tripp was very good on special teams before getting hurt and placed on IR last season.

What I think

It’s not the first time I have heard Tripp’s name being mentioned as on the bubble but there is depth concern at linebacker and if Tripp can stay healthy he will contribute to the team on the special teams unit. I agree with the Sentinel here and that he needs to develop more at linebacker but I don’t think the Dolphins will part with him this season.

Tony Lippett

Lippett is one of the Dolphins 5th round picks this year and is a versatile player. He is making the transition from wide-receiver to full time cornerback. He split the duties at Michigan State.

What I think

There is no such thing as a “no-way” but I disagree here with Lippett. The Dolphins have a lot of talent at cornerback but for my money, Will Davis has more of a chance of losing his job than Lippett. Things change in camp and what Lippett can do or can’t do on the field with pads on will be the tell all.

Zach Bowman

Bowman was signed this year to add depth to the roster and was not impressive in OTA’s. He did have a leg injury.

What I think

While I think there is value with Bowman who can also contribute on special teams I do agree here. The Dolphins have some unproven talent but they also have some very good potential projects. With the starting unit of Brent Grimes and Jamar Taylor along with Brice McCain Bowman might be expendable.

Don Jones

Jones has done well on special teams but that’s pretty much the extent of it.

What I think

The Dolphins have released Jones before and brought him back after he was released by the Patriots. Last season he didn’t make the final 53 and I doubt he does this year either.
