Lamar Miller eclipsed the 1,000 yard plateau in 2014 for the first time in his career. He became the first Miami Dolphins running back since Ronnie Brown accomplished the feat in 2008. Miller lacks explosive speed but in the final game of the 2014 season scored on a 90 plus yard run in a loss to the Jets. Miller struggled early in his career after being drafted in the 4th round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The Miami University product came with high-expectations that were no realized in his first two seasons.

In 2014 Miller entered the season as the number two running back behind Knowshon Moreno but an injury on the first series of the 2nd game of the season brought Miller to the starting role. Miller spent a lot of time working on his pass protection and is still working to become a bigger threat in the passing game as a receiver out of the back-field. Many believed that the Dolphins would sign a free agent runner to compete with him during the 2015 training camp but the Dolphins believe that Miller can carry the workload while be spelled by a combination of 5th round rookie Jay Ajayi and returning sophomore Damien Williams.
