Secondary

The leader of the Dolphins secondary will be Reshad Jones. In fact, Jones is the leader of the entire defense. The secondary has had its problems and this year really could go either way.

Byron Maxwell had a rough time in Philadelphia and Miami is hoping that they will get the Seahawk Maxwell instead. After releasing Brent Grimes, the Dolphins had two holes at the starting cornerback position. Maxwell filled one and the Dolphins turned to the draft for the other.

Taken in round two, Xavien Howard enters the off-season with high expectations. There is no lock for him to start and he will need to quickly get up to NFL speed if he plans on making an impact on the defense in 2016.

Safety was also a concern entering the season but the Dolphins seem to have an answer with free agency and returning veterans. Still, cornerback is going to be the position that defines the defense as either good or horribly bad.

CB1 – Byron Maxwell, Bobby McCain

CB 2 – Xavien Howard, Chimdi Chekwa

FS – Reshad Jones, Shamiel Gary

SS – Isa Abdul-Quddus, Michael Thomas

Players to watch here that are not in the top two spots but could be are Tony Lippett and Walt Aikens. Lippett especially is a player to watch this off-season as he could impact the depth chart at corner.
