Corners and safeties

The Miami Dolphins believe that you can never have too many corners and even if in the mid-rounds, the Dolphins will likely draft one in 2019. Maybe earlier if they fall in love with a prospect like they did with Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Xavien Howard continue to be impressive but the opposite side of the field still needs work and the draft could find another gem early should the growth on that side not develop to the Dolphins liking.

In the deep secondary however is where Miami should pay more attention. Reshad Jones is starting to show signs of getting older. Make no mistake his play has been fantastic this year so far but his body is taking a lot of physical hits and as we learned this week, his shoulder is banged up. T.J. McDonald will count almost $7 million next season if the team cuts him so it’s unlikely that he goes anywhere following 2018 unless his play completely imploded.

The Dolphins may look at the safety position as an early draft need but that will only happen if Jones struggles with any major health issues which hasn’t been a problem for him and McDonald regresses. More likely they will look towards a day three safety to groom.

Fitzpatrick is capable of playing safety but I doubt the Dolphins will want to move him into that kind of role. He is making more plays moving around as a slot type corner.
