Kenyan Drake shines as Miami Dolphins fall to Houston Texans
By Nick Belotto
On Thursday night Kenyan Drake shined amid the dark game that unfolded leaving the Miami Dolphins at .500 for the first time this season.
he Miami Dolphins looked lost against the Texans on Thursday night. Based on last night’s performance, it’s hard to give out a player of the game award when the team played so poorly. Yet one player did shine yesterday in the blowout loss and Kenyan Drake deserves to be recognized for his play.
Drake has had an up and down season so far for the Dolphins. Drake is completely capable of making an impact on a game with his speed and receiving skills. He has struggled, however, with some aspects of the run game this season as he sometimes finds himself running east and west too often as opposed to north and south. Yet, on Thursday, he demonstrated quality vision and showed just how dangerous he can be in this offense, both as a runner and as a receiver.
Stats wise, Drake tallied 53 rushing yards on 12 attempts, scoring once on the ground. He added 2 receptions for 37 yards and another score. In a game when Miami looked disheveled, Drake outshined the rest of his teammates.
There was a lot of hype surrounding Drake as the season began and, for a variety of reasons, he hasn’t necessarily delivered in the way the Miami expected him to. This is evident from the Dolphins choosing to start their recent games with Frank Gore instead of Drake. The talent is there and it just needs to be shown on a week to week basis.
The entire team is in a bad spot currently. The injuries are really starting to add up for this offensive unit and Miami needs Drake to continue to play like he did last night in order to overcome these challenges. If Miami can continue to capitalize on Drake’s talent, the loss of guys like Albert Wilson may not be felt as much as the season continues.
