The Miami Dolphins have found their 2019 starting quarterback today as they sign free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick.

When the 2019 season begins, the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins will likely be Ryan Fitzpatrick. The 36-year-old quarterback will sign with the Dolphins according to a source for Cameron Wolfe.

Fitzpatrick had a small tie to Miami last year when Minkah Fitzpatrick filed a copyright for the term “FitzMagic”. At the same time Tampa Bay fans were calling their QB the same. It didn’t last long as the Fitz”Magic” died off through the season.

In 2018 Fitpatrick played in 8 games for the Buccaneers starting seven of them. He threw 17 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Earlier today we speculated on why the Dolphins did not need a veteran quarterback but if they opted to sign one, Fitzpatrick would make more sense than the others they have been rumored to have interest in. Fitzpatrick has 14 NFL seasons under his belt.

According to several members of the media, Fitzpatrick’s deal is for two years which would bridge the Dolphins search and implementation of a rookie quarterback in either 2019 or 2020.

Fitzpatrick came into the league in 2005 as a 7th round pick of the then St. Louis Rams. He appeared in six games starting three his rookie season. He spent two years with the Rams and then joined the Bengals for two seasons before landing with the Bills for four years.

The Bills would prove to be his longest stop. He would play single seasons with the Titans and Texans before spending two with the Jets and finally the Bengals.

In his career, Fitzpatrick is 50-75-1 with 190 touchdowns and 148 interceptions. In his 14 year career he has not gone to a pro-bowl and has not played in a post-season game. In Miami he will be a caretaker to another team that is rebuilding.

The signing is not flashy but it does make some sense given the current situation with the team. Miami will draft an early round one quarterback either in 2019 or 2020 with most speculating that they will wait until 2020 but there is the potential for a 2019 mid-round addition if they opt out of making a play for one in 2019’s first round.
